Bhutan U20

Thimphu is where Bhutan's football takes shape: the Bhutan Football Federation, founded in 1983, runs the country's youth pathway from the capital, and the national under-20 side is the clearest test of what that pathway produces. The team plays out of Changlimithang Stadium, a ground built for 15,000, and takes the field in orange and white, the same pairing that runs through the national flag.

The Dragons, as the age-group side is known, borrowing the nickname of Bhutan's senior team, have built their identity in the SAFF U-20 Championship rather than on the continental stage. Bhutan finished fourth there in 2017 and again in 2019, then reached third place in 2026. Rinzin Dorji has captained the squads built around that run.

Behind the results sits the BFF Academy, opened in Thimphu in 2022 to feed talent into the national age-group sides alongside club schemes such as Paro FC's. Nepal remains the side Bhutan measures itself against most often in SAFF competition. What the Dragons have not yet done is win that regional title outright, or take the step up to the AFC U-20 Asian Cup finals.
