MLS Next Pro's newest side has yet to kick a competitive ball. CT United FC was meant to debut in 2025, but construction delays at its future home pushed that back to the 2026 season, when the club plays in the third tier of the American and Canadian pyramid for the first time.

The project began on 9 January 2024, when Connecticut Sports Group put its name to an independent professional club rather than an affiliate of an MLS parent. Andre and Michele Swanston co-founded the group; Stefon Castle is listed among its investors. Bridgeport was the point of it — a state that already had Hartford Athletic in the USL Championship gained a second pro side, this one built around the city's waterfront rather than the capital.

That waterfront is also where the stadium is rising, on the site of the old Shoreline Star Greyhound Park on Kossuth Street. Planned capacity runs between 7,500 and 10,000, with room to grow, and it is the ground itself, not a nickname, that the club has built its identity around while it waits to open.

There is an older CT United FC in the state's history, formed in 2015 in New Britain and gone after a run in the American Soccer League. The new Bridgeport club shares the name but not the lineage — it is a separate organisation, starting from nothing rather than continuing something.

Since there is no history yet, the club has led with its look: a four-colour identity of Park City Purple, Azure Breeze Blue, Pitch Black and Mountain Laurel White, settled late in 2025 alongside the coaching appointment that will take the team into its first-ever season.
