Corona Braşov

The one fixture Corona Brașov never got to settle properly was the local derby, and it says something about how the city's football has fractured that FC Brașov, the club long treated as the city's historic name, went bankrupt in 2017. Corona, built as the football section of a municipal sports club and long viewed by supporters as the "mayor's club" rather than the real thing, absorbed the wreckage in 2021, merging with the company that held the FC Brașov brand to create a side called Steagul Renaște. That project folded too, in 2023, and leaving a separate fan-run outfit, SR Brașov, to carry the old identity through the lower leagues.

The derby the city talks about longest happened in 2013/14, the one season the two clubs actually shared a division. Corona had got there on a run with few parallels in Romanian football: promoted four times in four years, from the fifth tier in 2009 to Liga I by 2013. The top flight punished the climb.

The club formed in 2008 as the football arm of Sport Club Municipal Brașov, took the Corona name in 2019, and went through a formal refounding in 2024. It plays in yellow and blue, home matches at the 1,056-capacity Metrom Stadium after years split between the old Carpați ground, demolished in 2020, and the Silviu Ploeșteanu stadium. This summer brought another promotion, the club's third Liga IV title.
