El Mokawloon

The 1982–83 season still stands alone in El Mokawloon's history: promoted to the Egyptian Premier League only two years earlier, the club from Nasr City finished top of the table ahead of both Al Ahly and Zamalek. The same run carried into Africa, where the team retained the African Cup Winners' Cup in successive years, beating Power Dynamos in 1982 and OC Agaza in 1983. A third continental title followed in 1996 against AC Sodigraf, and the following year the club reached the CAF Super Cup final, losing to Zamalek on penalties.

The club exists because of a construction company. Osman Ahmed Osman, the engineer behind Arab Contractors, founded the side in 1973 as the firm's own sporting outlet, and the name has stuck alongside the official one. The nickname, Mountain Wolves, comes from the ground's position on the Muqattam Hills, and green and white have carried through from the start even as yellow and black have crept into away kits in recent seasons.

Mohamed Salah passed through the youth ranks before his move to Basel, and Mohamed Elneny spent three seasons in the first team before the same route abroad. The rivalry with Ismaily SC is sharpened by the 2000 Egypt Cup final, which Ismaily won 4–0.

League form has been harder to sustain than continental pedigree. After eighteen straight seasons in the top flight, El Mokawloon went down in 2023–24, finishing 17th, before winning the second division outright the following season with 77 points to return for 2025–26.
