ES Sétif

The Derby de Sétif belongs to USM Sétif, though the club's older grudges run to JS Kabylie, MC Oran and CA Bordj Bou Arreridj. The black and white shirts carry their own weight before either rival takes the pitch: adopted in 1958, the colours were chosen in mourning for the Sétif and Guelma massacres of 8 May 1945, and the ground the club still plays at, the 8 May 1945 Stadium, keeps that date in its name.

Founded in 1958 by Ali Benaouda and Ali Layass, the club took the nickname El Kahla, the Black One, later rendered abroad as The Black Eagles . Domestic silverware came in bursts rather than a steady climb: the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 has been won eight times, alongside seven Algerian Cups stretching back to the 1960s.

The continental record is what separates Sétif from most of its rivals. The club won the CAF Champions League in 1988 and again in 2014, added the CAF Super Cup in 2015, and took the Afro-Asian Club Championship in 1989 and the Arab Club Champions Cup twice, in 2007 and 2008. A runner-up finish in the 2009 CAF Confederation Cup sits alongside those.

Akram Djahnit holds the club's appearance record with 335 matches, and the academy has sent out players including Abdelmoumen Djabou and, more recently, Mohammed Amoura.
