That record opens with the 1977 AFC Youth Championship, the squad's first appearance in what is now the AFC U-20 Asian Cup, followed by an Arab Cup U-20 debut in 1983, played then as the Palestine Cup of Nations for Youth.

The one senior-tournament appearance came in 2007, at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada, under head coach Jan Poulsen. Jordan went out in the group stage with a draw and two defeats, but the trip produced Abdallah Deeb , who scored against both Zambia and Spain there and went on to win 121 caps for the senior side.

Regionally the side has done better without ever winning the continental title outright: fourth place at the 2006 AFC U-20 Asian Cup remains the best finish, with quarter-final runs following in 2012 and 2023, and third place at the 2019 WAFF U-18 Championship. Matches against Syria, known locally as the Levant Derby, carry the sharpest edge of any fixture on the calendar. Home games are staged in Amman, and the players still go out under the name Al-Nashama, the Chivalrous Ones.
