Four to two on penalties after a goalless ninety at the 2025 AFC U-20 Asian Cup semi-final was the shape the rivalry with South Korea took most recently. That penalty shoot-out sits inside a run of finals against the same opponent: South Korea were also beaten in the 1992 and 2018 Asian Cup finals, 2-0 and 1-0.

The side plays under the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, which dates to 1956, and shares its nickname, the Falcons, with the senior team. Green and white kit, no fixed home ground — recent Asian Cup qualifiers were staged at Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Sports City Stadium in Abha, a 20,000-seat venue, though the federation has used grounds elsewhere for youth fixtures too.

Beyond the Asian Cup, the age group has collected two Arab Cup titles in a row, beating Algeria in 2021 and then Egypt on penalties in 2022, and it has taken the Gulf Cup at this level twice, a decade apart, in 2016 and 2025. At senior World Cup stage the results have been more modest: the Round of 16 in 2011 and again in 2017, the latter squad captained by Abdulelah Al-Amri. Firas Al-Buraikan, who went on to finish as the Saudis' top scorer at the 2019 World Cup, and Yasser Al-Shahrani, a fixture of that 2011 group, are among the names who moved straight through from this team into the senior set-up.
