Stadium Darul Aman holds 32,387 and sits at the centre of everything Kedah do at home, though for smaller occasions the club falls back on the MPKP Mini Stadium.

Tunku Yaacob ibni Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah put the team together in Alor Setar in 1924, under the Kedah Football Association, and it stayed an amateur concern for seventy years before turning professional in 1994. The 2021 split, when the club broke away and refashioned itself as Kedah Darul Aman F.C., changed more than the name; it left the old Kedah FA to carry on separately, and it reshaped how supporters refer to the team even now.

The colours on the shirt do not match the ones in the club's own history. Red and black were the original identity, but the team has worn green and yellow at home since 1988.

Under Azraai Khor Abdullah the club managed something few sides in Malaysian football have matched: back-to-back domestic trebles, in 2006–07 and 2007–08, sweeping the Super League, the Malaysia Cup and the FA Cup in both seasons.

None of that history stopped relegation in 2012, and it did nothing to prevent the club's ejection from the Super League in 2024–25 over financial breaches.
