The Malaysia A1 Semi-Pro League is where Kelantan City now find themselves, having earned the step up after finishing second in the Malaysia A2 Amateur League during the 2024-25 campaign. It is the first promotion in the club's history.
The team traces back to 2014, when it started life as Wan Tendong Stable FC and took its first steps in the third-tier Malaysia M4 League. The name changed along the way.
Most matches are played at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium, though smaller fixtures have gone to the Pasir Mas Mini Stadium instead. Kelantan is a state that already knows the taste of Malaysia Cup and Super League football through the old Kelantan FA, a separate club with its own trophy history, and the newer side has had to build its name apart from that legacy rather than borrow it. Locally the sharper edge comes from the Kelantan Derby, played against Kelantan Red Warrior and Kelantan United.
