Hedvig Lindahl kept goal for the club between 2004 and 2008 before more than a decade as Sweden's first-choice goalkeeper elsewhere; Caroline Seger came through a season later and went on to captain the national team. Nilla Fischer, Kosovare Asllani and Stina Blackstenius followed the same route out, which is why the club is discussed abroad mostly as a nursery for talent rather than as a rival to anyone in particular.

The club itself is younger than most of the careers it launched. It was formed on 4 November 2003, when the women's side Kenty DFF merged with the ice hockey club Linköping HC — a pairing across sports that is unusual even by Swedish standards.

Three Damallsvenskan titles followed: 2009, then back-to-back in 2016 and 2017, the first delivered by Martin Sjögren, the second defended by Kim Björkegren. A Svenska Cupen win came earlier, in 2008, under Daniel Pettersson. Six bronze finishes since then, most recently in 2023, filled in the years without a championship.

Home games are played at Linköping Arena, marketed under the sponsor name Bilbörsen Arena, which opened in 2013 once that summer's Women's Euro had moved on. It holds 7,400.

None of that prepared the club for 2025. A 13th-place finish sent Linköping down to Elitettan, the first relegation the club had suffered since it was founded.

Of everyone who wore the shirt on the way to somewhere bigger, Pernille Harder is the name still recognised furthest from Sweden — four seasons from 2012 before Wolfsburg, and later Chelsea, made her one of the sport's defining players.
