Promotion has come easily to Maccabi Neve Sha'anan lately: first the Liga Gimel title in 2018–19, which lifted the Haifa club into Liga Bet, then, in 2024–25, a first-place finish in Liga Bet North B that sent it up again, this time into Liga Alef North. The youth side has climbed too, taking the Northern Youth League in 2021–22.
The senior team plays on Fridays, out of respect for the father of Eldad Regev, a soldier who turned out for the club as an amateur in Liga Gimel around the 2004–05 season. Regev was seized by Hezbollah on 12 July 2006 during reserve duty, an abduction that helped set off the Second Lebanon War; he did not survive, and his body came home in a 2008 prisoner exchange. The club took his name into its own in 2009, becoming Maccabi Neve Sha'anan Eldad, and for years its shirts carried the line "Eldad, we're waiting for you on the pitch" before that gave way to a memorial inscription.
Founded in 1965 by Yosef Shriki, who died in 2016 and whose name the youth section now carries, the club plays in light blue and black at the Avi Ran Ground, a two-pitch venue where the main field holds 1,000 spectators.
Recent seasons have put Maccabi Neve Sha'anan on the same side of the draw as Beitar Haifa, meeting in the Israel State Cup and in Liga Bet playoff football, local matches that Haifa followers have watched closely without either club ever calling it a derby.
