That climb had happened before, in 2015–16, only for the team to slip back down; the 2024–25 promotion, won through the Seconde Ligue, was the one meant to stick. Anaïs M'Bassidjé's 157 appearances for the club and Alicia Pourquiès's 134 goals are notable records for the club.

The club counts its history back further than its 2011 refounding, to a women's section formed in 1927 and another that ran from 1970 until 1986, both dissolved rather than carried forward. In September 2025 the team dropped the OM Féminines name it had carried and became Les Marseillaises, its new badge drawn from the Statue of La Marseillaise on the Arc de Triomphe.

Paris Saint-Germain Women remain the fixture that matters most, billed locally as Le Classique féminin.
