Newmarket

Newmarket line up this season in the Football Queensland Premier League 3 – Metro. Staying up in Capital League 2 has not always come easily for the club — they dropped out of that division in 2015 and returned later.

The club started out as the Postal Institute Soccer Club, formed by Henry Seeney and Les Tozer, two men who worked at the Australian Postal Institute, in 1949. It carried that name until the mid-1960s, returning to competition as Newmarket Soccer Football Club in 1967. The badge, showing the Greek god Hermes, has not changed since the club's founding.

Promotion and relegation have shaped most of Newmarket's story. From Division Five they climbed to win Division Four in 1953, reached Division Two by 1958, then dropped back out of it in 1964. In cup football, a Brisbane Premier Cup quarter-final in 2005 remains their high-water mark.

North Brisbane, based just up the road in Lutwyche, give the club its sharpest rivalry. Home games are played in front of no more than 1,000 spectators at McCook Park, in gold and maroon.
