Adam al Jalboubi ran the offence from the setter position long enough to earn a move away from Oman altogether, signing with the UAE club Al Ain in 2026 after building his reputation at Seeb Club and in the national shirt. It is through players like him that the national team has tried to close the gap on the region's stronger sides, a process the federation dates back to September 1985, when Ministerial Resolution No. 59/85 formally created the body now known as the Oman Volleyball Association, a decade after the country had already joined the Asian Volleyball Confederation and three years before it joined the International Volleyball Federation.

Home fixtures and training run through the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat's Boshar district, where the main hall holds 1,200 spectators. Red and white, the colours of the flag, appear on the kit, though nobody in Omani volleyball has ever bothered giving the team a nickname to match the football side's "Al-Suqour" — locally the side is simply called Al-Omani.

Results at the continental level have stayed modest. Across appearances at the Asian Men's Volleyball Championship in 2013, 2015 and 2019, 15th place, reached twice, is as high as Oman has finished, and lean years since have pushed the team toward the second-tier AVC Men's Challenge Cup instead. The clearer progress has come closer to home: at the 2025 West Asian Volleyball Championship in Manama, Oman beat Saudi Arabia 3-1 in the third-place match to take bronze, a result Jamal al Mamari's side carried into hosting duties the following year, when Muscat staged the 2026 edition of the same championship. A podium finish anywhere beyond West Asia is still the one thing missing from the record.
