Ivan Joksimović took over Bahrain's bench in 2026. Before him it was Arnaud Josserand, who steered the side to the 2025 AVC Men's Volleyball Nations Cup, and before that Jorge Elgueta, who beat Qatar 3-1 in the final to take the 2024 Arab Championship. Names like Ruben Wolochin and Wolfgang Sidka passed through earlier.

Qatar is the opponent that keeps turning up when it matters. The two sides have met repeatedly in finals of the Arab Championship and the West Asian Championship.

That win was the team's third Arab title, after 1992 against Syria and 2008 against Tunisia. Asia has been harder ground: no title in the Asian Championship, where the best finish is eighth, and the same eighth place stands as the ceiling at the Asian Games. The silverware there has come at the smaller continental events — runners-up at the 2023 AVC Challenge Cup, beaten by Thailand in the final, and bronze at the 2022 AVC Cup.

The team trains and plays out of Manama and Riffa, without a single ground it calls its own, and answers to the Bahrain Volleyball Association, set up in December 1974 and brought into the FIVB and the Asian Volleyball Confederation two years later.
