Qatar's men reached a final in every direction before they finally won one: runners-up to Turkey at the 2023 Volleyball Challenger Cup they hosted in Doha, fourth at three separate Asian Games, ninth at the 2017 FIVB World League on the back of a set they won 45-43 against Venezuela, the longest in the sport's international record. The breakthrough came in 2024, with the AVC Challenge Cup for Men, settled 3-0 against Pakistan in the final. A few months earlier the team had already taken bronze at the 2023 Asian Championship, beating China 3-0 for the medal.
None of it happened by accident. From the 2000s onward the federation built the national team around naturalised players, several of them Brazilian by birth.
The Qatar Volleyball Association dates itself to 1962, though the Qatar Olympic Committee gives 1964; either way, affiliation with the Asian Volleyball Confederation followed in 1966. The Wolves train at the Qatar Volleyball Federation Hall in Doha.
