Recreativo do Libolo

Fredy captained Angola at the Africa Cup of Nations more than once, and before he did that he wore the orange and blue of a club from Calulo that, for four years running, won the Girabola. Between 2011 and 2015 Libolo took the title in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015, pushing Petro de Luanda and Primeiro de Agosto off the top of a table they had shared for decades between themselves.

The name on the shirt was not always Libolo. After independence, during the civil war, the club played as Cambuco Futebol Clube, and only in 2002 did it go back to being Clube Recreativo Desportivo do Libolo — the name it had carried since 1942, when three local sides, Palmeiras, Cambuco and Fortaleza, merged into one.

The continental run that followed the domestic title had one afternoon worth remembering on its own: in the group stage of the 2013 CAF Champions League, Libolo beat Espérance de Tunis, then the reigning African champions, 1–0. They still went out third in the group, but the result stood. Three years later Libolo added the Taça de Angola, beating Progresso do Sambizanga 2–1 after extra time, and paired it with the Supertaça de Angola in both 2015 and 2016.

None of that has carried through to the present. Wages have gone unpaid, and the club that once broke up Angola's usual two-way title race sits 13th in the 2025–26 Girabola.
