Sl. Ceske Budejovice

České Budějovice sits in South Bohemia, a brewing town before anything else, and for well over a century its football club has run on the same rhythm as the rest of the city's fortunes — good seasons and long stretches in the lower divisions, rarely anything in between. Founded in 1900 as SK České Budějovice, the club spent decades known simply by its town, and only research published in 2016 pushed the accepted founding date back from 1905, a correction the club did not put on its own crest and website until 2023.

Dynamo's ground, Fotbalový stadion Střelecký ostrov, holds just under 6,700, all of them seated, on an island whose name — Shooters' Island — has nothing to do with the football played there now. The club has never lifted the Czech Cup, though it reached the semi-finals three times, most recently in 2022–23, and its highest finish in the top flight remains sixth, managed twice in the 1990s. What silverware exists has come from lower down: three Czech 2. Liga titles, the most recent in 2019, and six wins in the regional Perleťový pohár stretching back to 1938.

Karel Poborský came home to finish his career here between 2005 and 2007, and the club retired his number 8 for it — a rare gesture for a side that has otherwise made its name developing players rather than keeping them, David Lafata among those who started in České Budějovice before moving on. That churn has continued at the club's own expense: relegated from the Czech First League in 2025, Dynamo was then sent down again administratively from the second tier for the following season after failing to meet licensing requirements.

None of that touches what still draws a crowd every autumn: the Jihočeské derby against FC MAS Táborsko, South Bohemia's own claim on the rest of the country's attention.
