Košice already has a professional club in the top flight; what the Technical University added in 2014 was a team of its own, drawn from its student body and named for it. FK Slávia TU Košice remains the country's first university football side.

Its ground, Štadión TU Watsonova, seats 350 of its 1,000 capacity.

The club spent most of its existence in the lower tiers before the 2022–23 season, when it won the 3. Liga (East) and reached the 2. Liga for the first time. In the Slovak Cup, the furthest it has gone is the round of 32, in 2019–20. Marcel Üvegeš, capped by Slovakia's futsal side and a world champion with them in 2024, is the name most attached to the club in that period.

The rivalry that matters locally is with FC Lokomotíva Košice, played out as the Košice derby. The most recent meeting, on 11 November 2024, went to Slávia TU 1–0, the goal scored by František Vancák.
