Šmartno

Šmartno ob Paki sit eighth in 3. SNL – East this season, under the club's full legal name, NK Šmartno 1928.

The name marks a date rather than an era: football had been played in the town since 1928.

Home games are played at Šmartno Stadium, with room for around 1,500 to 2,000 when the ground is full.

Among those who have worn the shirt, Alen Mujanovič stands out on the pitch itself: twice the Second League's top scorer, in 1998/99 and 2007/08, he spent two seasons at the club either side of that second title and scored 36 goals in 39 appearances. Stefan Ristovski, later a regular for North Macedonia's national side, spent a loan year here in 2012/13, and Zoran Pavlović, capped 21 times for Slovenia and a squad member at Euro 2000 and the 2002 World Cup, turned out for the club in 2019/20, well past his international peak.

Local rivalries in this corner of the Celje region run through the MNZ Celje Cup, which the old Šmartno side won three times, in 1993, 1999 and 2001 — the clearest sign of where its sharpest contests were fought, against the other clubs of the same district rather than opponents from higher divisions.
