Smouha SC

Alexandria Stadium seats 13,660. He founded it on 29 December 1949. His connection to it ended after the 1956 Suez Crisis, when Gamal Abdel Nasser's government nationalised the district along with the club, and the Smouha family left Egypt for good. The club stayed open under state control.

Promotion came in 2009–10, sealed with a 7–1 win over Abu Qair Semad, and Smouha have not dropped out of the Premier League since. The high point followed a few seasons later: in 2013–14 they finished second in the league phase and reached the Egypt Cup final, a run that also opened the door to their first CAF Champions League campaign in 2015, where they got through a run of preliminary ties against sides from Libya, Nigeria and Congo before falling in the group stage. Another cup final arrived in 2017–18, lost to Zamalek on penalties after extra time.

The club calls itself the Blue Wave, a name that matches its colours and its home city's coastline, and its derby against Al-Ittihad Alexandria remains the fixture that decides bragging rights along that stretch of coast.
