Sopron

Iván Balaskó scored twice in the Magyar Kupa final on 11 May 2005, and the 5–1 win over Ferencváros remains the reason anyone outside Sopron remembers this club at all. That team played as FC Sopron, itself a continuation of a Soproni FC line stretching back to 1900, and the cup run capped a season that already carried the club's other honour, the third-tier title won in 1993–94. Neither result changed much beyond the town: the following years brought financial trouble under owner Antonio Righi, and by 2008 FC Sopron had gone bankrupt and folded.

What continued was Soproni VSE, tracing its own line to 1921, when it was founded as Soproni Postás. The purple and white shirts are the visible link between the two eras, and long enough a memory of the 2005 final still gives matches against Gyirmót or ETO Győr, the county derby fixtures, a bit more edge than the table alone would suggest.

Sopron sits in Hungary's west, close enough to Győr that those derbies carry weight, and the club now plays out its matches at the Soproni Városi Stadion, a ground on Káposztás utca that holds a fraction of the crowd Ferencváros brought to that 2005 final but has stayed the fixed point through the club's various names.
