Yangon Royals

City Holdings Group put money behind a simple idea in mid-2024: Yangon Royals is the result.

The debut season went straight into MNL-2 rather than the top flight. It paid off in 2025: the Amateur Club Tournament title and the MNL-2 promotion championship, sending Yangon Royals up to the Myanmar National League for 2026–27 after only two years in existence.

Hiroki Ono arrives as head coach for that top-flight debut having already won the league with Shan United, brought in specifically to manage the step up from amateur football to the country's premier division. The club trains at the Thuwunna Training Ground and has used Myathida Stadium and the 3,000-seat Padonmar Stadium for matches, none of them yet a settled long-term home.

Promotion puts Yangon Royals in the same division as Yangon United for the first time, and the derby between the two has already been marked out as the club's defining fixture in the city. Matches against Shan United, the side Ono left behind, carry their own weight, but it is the Yangon derby that will measure whether the newest club in the capital belongs among it.
