Boomanulla Enclosed Oval

Canberra, Australia

This was the first asset of its kind returned in the Australian Capital Territory. The ground carries the name of Berry Boomanulla, a rugby league player from the 1940s who played for the Redfern All Blacks.

The facility was closed in December 2014 after the managing Aboriginal Corporation went into voluntary administration. The ACT Government stepped in to fund a major restoration, reopening the oval in May 2019. Today, it operates under an interim joint committee as part of a transition to return full control to Indigenous management.

The Canberra Royals Rugby Union Club trains here, alongside local cricket sides. The Boomanulla Raiders, a rugby league team, call this patch of natural grass home.
