Civo Stadium

Civo Stadium sits on Selous Road in Area 10, a central planning zone in the capital city of Malawi. In 2010 the Chinese government funded a major reconstruction that shifted the official capacity from 40,000 to 25,000. The playing surface is natural grass, confirmed by a CAF inspection report which noted the turf was "all covered by green grass." CIVO United, also known as Civil Service United, has always been the primary tenant. The club competes in the Malawi Premier Division. Since 2023, Extreme FC has also used the facility as a home ground. Kamuzu Barracks have joined the list of tenants under specific agreements, likely because their own facilities were unfit. The venue was formerly known as Stade des Jeunes. The name was changed to Civo Stadium, derived from the Civil Sporting Club. The ground has hosted international football matches. On October 12, 2002, it hosted a 2004 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Malawi and Angola. Malawi won 1–0. The recorded attendance for this match was 40,000, exceeding the official seating capacity, likely due to standing room. The stadium also hosted the return leg of a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Malawi and Ghana. The match was moved to Civo from Kamuzu Stadium after the latter was closed. Beyond football, the stadium hosts major concerts and festivals. The Ufulu Festival is an annual free community festival organized by Flood Church Malawi since 2014 to commemorate Independence Day. It attracts crowds of over 16,000. The Ku Mingoli Bash took place in 2024, featuring artists like Casper Nyovest and Young Stunna. The Best of Gwamba Concert on September 21, 2024, reportedly created over 1,433 jobs. The stadium has also hosted religious ceremonies, such as the consecration of Catholic Auxiliary Bishop Vincent Mwakhwawa.
