Hala míčových sportů

Ostrava, Czechia

The Hala míčových sportů does not sit on a hill or face a river. It sits inside the City Campus of Ostrava University on Černá Louka. The hall measures fifty by thirty-three meters and can be split into three sections, allowing the space to breathe differently depending on the event. The surface is wooden, a standard for basketball and floorball, but also used for futsal and handball here.

The primary tenant is the women’s volleyball club TJ Ostrava. The club’s history is tangled. Some sources place its founding in 1952, others in 1990. Between those dates it carried the name TJ Mittal Ostrava before dropping the corporate label. The hall hosts their Czech Volleyball Extraliga matches and the local Ostrava Cup floorball tournament. The capacity is small, reported as five hundred by international databases but the club’s own website claims a tribune for up to six hundred. The discrepancy is minor in a sport where the crowd rarely exceeds a few hundred.

What matters is the proximity to the university. The building also has a new competitor rising on Fifejdách, a multifunctional arena with four and a half thousand seats expected to open in 2027. For now, the Hala míčových sportů remains the quiet centre of Ostrava’s indoor games. The wooden floor is well-worn but maintained. The curtains hang ready to divide the space.
