The venue was originally built with just under 10,000 seats, a number that has grown since the initial 2004 opening, though the scale remains intimate. It hosts the Ospreys soccer teams, but the primary draw is the Athletics programme and the track events that fill the calendar. The surface beneath the feet is grass for the football, but the running track is synthetic, a distinction that matters to anyone who has used both.

There is a quiet permanence to the place, built by McCall Construction and designed by Borrelli + Partners. The facility has hosted the Atlantic Cup rugby league tournament in 2010, an event that brought a different kind of energy to the stands. The press box sits low against the structure, a practical addition from the renovation period that followed the Hodges donation. It is not a destination for tourists or a pilgrimage site for casual fans, but for the teams that play there, the track and the pitch are the only things that matter. The game is played on the grass, the runners on the synthetic, and the spectators watch from the concrete benches.
