The gap closed on 30 August 2022, when a group called JAXUSL secured a USL Championship franchise for the city — Tim Tebow and Fred Taylor among the owners behind it.

The men's side finally took the field in the USL Championship in 2026, and the debut season did not go to plan. A 15-game run without a win stretched from 7 March to 3 July, bookended by a 6-2 defeat to Detroit City FC and a 3-0 loss to Hartford Athletic, with a 4-4 draw against San Antonio FC standing out as one of the few nights the team matched an opponent goal for goal.

Johns Town Center have been discussed but not built. The listed capacity is 12,000, and a league fixture against Hartford Athletic drew 10,357 of them.
