In 2017, Miami FC won both the Spring and Fall seasonal titles in the same year. With the table conquered, the team fell at the semi-final stage of the Soccer Bowl.

The club had been put together two years earlier by the Italian media executive Riccardo Silva, with Paolo Maldini among the co-founders and Alessandro Nesta taking the touchline as first head coach. By December 2019 the club had bought the franchise slot of the disbanded Ottawa Fury FC and moved into USL Championship, making its debut there in 2020.

Home matches have been played at Pitbull Stadium in Miami since 2016, a 20,000-seat ground also known as FIU Stadium. In September 2025 the club announced plans to relocate to a smaller venue as part of the Sports Performance Hub development in Homestead, with construction due to begin in 2026 and capacity expected between 10,000 and 15,000.
