Jardines del Hipódromo María Mincheff de Lazaroff

Two facts sit at the heart of this ground, and neither shows up in the name at first. The estadio takes up a corner of what used to be Montevideo's racetrack grounds, in the Jardines del Hipódromo neighbourhood in the northeast of the city. Only in May 2017 did Danubio FC's members vote to add María Mincheff de Lazaroff to the title, honouring the mother of the club's founders, Juan and Miguel Lazaroff. It made this the first stadium in Uruguay to carry a woman's name.

Its longest tenancy, though, belonged to someone else. Peñarol rented the ground as its home venue for over eighty years, from 1933 until 2016. Uruguay's national team has used the ground going back to 1930, and Nacional has turned to it for select international fixtures. Boston River is due to move in as tenant from 2026.

Ownership rests with the Montevideo departmental government, while day-to-day management falls to the Comisión Administradora del Campo Oficial, a body that brings together the Uruguayan Football Association and the municipal administration. Under that arrangement, any Uruguayan club can rent the pitch for a home fixture.
