Kasarani Indoor Arena

The Kasarani Indoor Arena sits within the wider Moi International Sports Centre complex, a facility constructed by the Chinese government following a visit by President Daniel arap Moi to Beijing in 1980. Completed in 1987, the building served as one of the primary venues for the 4th All-Africa Games held in Nairobi that year.

Inside, the space is defined by its smooth wooden floor, a surface chosen for sports such as basketball, volleyball, and boxing. The arena holds 5,000 spectators and has operated under the sponsored name Safaricom Indoor Arena for extended periods.

The venue continues to function as a critical hub for national sport. It serves as the home ground for the Nairobi City Thunder, a team competing in the Basketball Africa League and FIBA Africa Champions Clubs. The facility also hosts the Kenya national volleyball teams during international qualifiers and championships. The management of the entire complex falls to Sports Kenya, the government body responsible for national stadiums.

The arena maintains its status as one of the larger indoor venues on the continent, a position earned since its completion decades ago.
