Stadium
Lesser Hampden (The City Stadium)
Glasgow, United Kingdom
Formerly: Lesser Hampden, Little Hampden
Lesser Hampden sits tucked against the western end of Hampden Park itself, in Mount Florida.
It opened with room for 12,000, and swelled over the following decades to a peak of 53,000 before Glasgow's 2014 Commonwealth Games preparations reshaped it entirely. Between 2012 and 2015, the pitch was lifted roughly a metre and a half on steel supports, packed with polystyrene and granular fill, and ringed with an international-standard running track — the kind of civil engineering more associated with athletics venues than a club's second pitch. The track came out again once the Games finished, but the artificial 3G surface laid underneath it stayed.
