Queen's Park

The City Stadium holds 990 people and sits on the footprint of Lesser Hampden, the training pitch Queen's Park used for generations in the shadow of the national stadium next door. The club needed a permanent home of its own after selling Hampden Park itself to the Scottish Football Association, ending more than a century as tenants of a ground built to hold fifty times what they now do. The new stadium opened on 12 August 2023.

Queen's Park was founded on 9 July 1867, making it the oldest club in Scotland and the tenth oldest in the world. It stayed amateur for 152 years, longer than any other club in Scottish professional football, and its best football came early: ten Scottish Cups between 1874 and 1893, starting with the competition's first-ever final, and two runs to the FA Cup final south of the border, in 1884 and 1885. Charles Campbell won all ten of those Scottish Cups. Alex Ferguson began his playing career at the club in 1958.

Amateur status stopped paying off once Queen's Park joined the Scottish League in 1900; relegations and re-promotions between the lower divisions became a recurring feature of the twentieth century. Members voted to turn professional on 14 November 2019, 91% in favour. The change told quickly: the League Two title in 2021, then a play-off route into the Championship the following year — a level the club had not reached since abandoning amateurism.

Black and white hoops have run through the kit for most of the club's history, giving rise to the nickname the Spiders, after both the stripes and a cobweb once painted on a building near where the club was formed. Matches against Rangers are still known as the Original Glasgow Derby, the oldest fixture of its kind in the city — a reminder of how much senior Scottish football Queen's Park watched grow up around it.
