Rimi Olympic Centre
Riga, Latvia
Formerly: Olympic Sports Centre, Elektrum Olympic Centre
The Rimi Olympic Centre sits in the Centrs district of Rīga.
The building itself dates to June 2005, replacing the Riga Hippodrome that stood on the site until 1965.
Inside, the space is divided. The main hall hosts basketball and handball, but the facility also contains a separate indoor football hall. That hall has artificial turf, a surface that is marked with white lines and surrounded by low hoardings.
The centre has hosted the 2006 NATO Riga Summit and the 2021 Men’s Ice Hockey World Championship. For the hockey tournament, a temporary rink was laid in the football hall, and the capacity was raised to 6,000. The Latvian Football Federation and the Latvian Olympic Committee have their headquarters here, along with the city’s oldest basketball clubs, BK VEF Rīga and BK Latvijas Universitāte.
