Sportanlage im Hinterkirch

Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

Formerly: no official former names

The name belongs to the ground before it belonged to the club: Hinterkirch is a corner of Zähringen, the northern district of Freiburg im Breisgau, and the street that runs past the gate, Hinterkirchstraße, was laid out in 1902 as part of a private development on land that until then had nothing built on it.

What sits there now is a two-pitch site rather than a stadium in the usual sense. The main pitch is grass, with no running track around it and no floodlights, which sets the limits of the calendar: what gets played here gets played in daylight. Pitch 2, the artificial one, carries the lighting, so the winter evenings belong to it.

The tenant is TSV Alemannia Freiburg-Zähringen 1900, a club that took its present shape in a 1967 merger. Its men's side plays in the Kreisliga B Freiburg, and has not been out of that stratum since the 1970s. The women's team is where the club's recent record is: it won the Verbandsliga Südbaden in 2025/26 and went back up to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg.

The furthest that team has travelled took it away from Hinterkirch entirely. Winning the South Baden cup in 2022 put Alemannia into the first round of the DFB-Pokal Frauen, but the draw sent them to Calden, to the Stadion Kaiserplatz, because the higher-division side held home advantage. On 21 August 2022 they lost 0:2 in front of 150 spectators.
