Sportovní hala Lužiny

Prague, Czechia

Sportovní hala Lužiny sits in the Stodůlky district of Prague, tucked inside the Lužiny housing estate. While its location straddles the boundary between Prague 5 and Prague 13, it is not a grand arena but a functional space, defined less by spectacle and more by the routine of local sport.

The hall has hosted volleyball since the mid-2000s, serving as the home for VK Lvi Praha from the 2007/08 season until their departure in 2020. Today, the main hall accommodates futsal and floorball, while a smaller room, known locally as 'Sál nad restaurací', has been exclusively rented by Fight Club Praha for karate since September 2023. The capacity is modest, with the official site listing 250 spectators when retractable stands are extended, though external sources claim up to 400. It is a working venue, not a tourist destination.

Architecturally, the hall is part of the estate built between 1980 and 1986, though the exact date of the hall’s construction remains unclear. A significant reconstruction project was studied in 2018. The facility is managed by the non-profit Sportovní klub Hala Lužiny z.s., registered on November 2, 2001. It is a place for training and lower-tier league matches, located at Bellušova 1877/68. The ceiling height of 8 metres offers little room for aerial acrobatics, but plenty for the grind of indoor competition. It is one of many such halls in the capital, distinct only for its role in the community’s sporting life.
