The ground sits in Johannesplatz, a housing district within the Ilversgehofen borough of Erfurt. Alongside the grass field, the complex houses tennis courts run by TC Optimus Erfurt e.V., gymnastics, pilates, table tennis and volleyball under MTV 1860 Erfurt, and lanes for skittles and bowling — the Russ & Janot Cup for young players is held here regularly. The city tennis finals were staged on these courts in 2024 and 2025.
Football's tenants are 1. FFV Erfurt, the women's side, and VfB Grün-Weiß 1990 Erfurt. Before them the ground took matches from 1. FFV Erfurt III, in 2012 among other seasons, and from SV Optima Erfurt.
What the small ground is best known for are the cup ties it has drawn against opposition from far above its level. On 24 August 2014, in the women's DFB-Pokal, 1. FFV Erfurt lost 0:2 to 1. FC Köln in front of roughly 250 spectators; on 26 September 2023 the same competition brought 1. FSV Mainz 05, who won 0:1.
