Stadio Partenio-Adriano Lombardi

Avellino built its ground in stone at a time when the club had never seen a top flight, and the wait shaped the place: work started in 1970 under a design commissioned by local businessman Costantino Rosci, and the stadium opened that December with a goalless draw against Brindisi in Serie C, long before Avellino's one Serie A season gave the terraces anything to shout about.

The name carries its own history. For most of its life the ground was simply Stadio Partenio. In 2011 the city council added a second name, Adriano Lombardi, honouring a former club captain who had died of motor neurone disease — the change went through in November 2010 and was marked with a formal ceremony the following June.

Underfoot, the pitch changed character more recently. Natural grass held until August 2016, when Italgreen relaid the surface in synthetic turf, making the Partenio-Lombardi one of the larger Italian grounds to make that switch.
