Ask a fan in Jihlava what makes Jiráskova Street different, and the answer usually points to 2011. That May, the Czech Cup final came here rather than to a stadium of national standing, and Mladá Boleslav beat Sigma Olomouc on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

The ground itself started life under a different logic altogether. Work began in 1951 on land the local sports organisation had only just bought, and when it opened on 16 June 1955, some 15,000 people turned up. Undersoil heating followed in 2012.

Youth football passed through too — UEFA's Under-16 tournament in the spring of 1999 brought group games and a quarter-final between Portugal and Poland. More recently the stadium has done duty as a lodger's address: Znojmo borrowed it for a match against Dukla when its own ground fell short of league requirements, and Opava played a home fixture here after flooding closed its stadium.
