Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex
Muscat, Oman
The ground sits in the Boshar district. The Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex has lived through two major tournaments in as many decades. It hosted matches during the 1996 Arabian Gulf Cup and later served as the main stadium for the 2009 edition of the same competition.
The capacity is a matter of some debate. The most authoritative current figure is 28,000, though other sources suggest higher numbers. The venue was originally designed for approximately 40,000 spectators, but renovations and safety regulations have reduced this number. The highest confirmed attendance recorded was 30,000 for the World Cup 2014 qualifier between Oman and Jordan on October 16, 2012. The complex also hosted the 2018 Men's Asian Champions Trophy (field hockey), a different sport played on the same natural grass surface.
It serves as the home ground for the Oman national football team, Boshar Club, and Muscat Club. The facility is managed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, who maintain the site in the Boshar district of Muscat.
