Tromsøhallen
Tromsø, Norway
The Tromsøhallen is not a place where the weather finds its way inside. Built in 1979 at Templarheimen, the structure has stood largely unchanged for decades. The interior has taken a beating. Leaks in the roof and uneven floors have defined the experience for players and spectators alike. It is a facility that has simply endured, rather than evolved.
The hall is a multi-purpose venue, primarily serving the local basketball and volleyball clubs. Tromsø Storm, the city’s basketball team, plays its home games here, as does the volleyball side, Ballklubb Tromsø. The space is also used for handball, floorball, and badminton. When the courts are empty, the hall hosts concerts and trade fairs.
The capacity of the arena is around 2,500 spectators. This figure is consistent across the local press and municipal records. It is not a large ground by city standards. The venue is managed by Tromsø kommune, which oversees the maintenance of the building.
A new project, known as Ny Tromsøhall, was launched to address the structural decay. The plan is to expand and modernize the facility, with completion scheduled for autumn 2028. Until then, the old hall remains in use, a reminder of the city’s sporting history despite the deterioration. The address is Templarheimen, 9010 TROMSØ, Norway. There is no specific website for the arena itself; information is found on the municipal site.
