Volda Campus Sparebank1 Arena

Volda Campus Sparebank1 Arena sits at Joplassvegen 1. The building opened in December 2020 to replace the old Voldahallen, which had become too small. Volda Handballklubb and KFUM Volda Volleyball established the ownership company together, and the result is a space.

Inside the hall, the seating comes in two sets of mobile telescope stands holding 800 seats each, plus two fixed sections with 240 spots. The total comes to 2,200, a number that has not changed since the doors first opened. The women’s handball side plays in the Eliteserien, the top flight, while the volleyball club fields teams in the 1. divisjon and youth leagues. Local schools use the floor as well, and a climbing wall runs along one side.

Outside, adjacent to the main structure, lies Volda Stadion, an outdoor pitch used by Volda IL. The surface is artificial turf with plastic-based infill, supplied by Sport Surface AS. A 2021 grant application referenced a turf replacement, but the exact date of that work is unclear. There is no confirmed heating system for the field, and the installation date remains undocumented.

The highest attendance recorded inside the arena was 1,470 spectators for a match against Vipers Kristiansand in September 2022. National teams have used the venue for training camps and friendlies, including a session in April 2024 featuring goalkeeper Andreas Palica. The arena has not hosted major final events like the EHF Champions League or the Norwegian Cup.

The building belongs to Volda Campus Arena AS, a company set up by the two sports clubs. The original contractor was Betonmast Røsand AS, with architecture by Stefan Ekberg Arkitekter AS. A separate swimming hall, Voldabadet, is being constructed next door but remains outside the arena’s footprint. No major renovations have taken place since opening, and the structure has not undergone expansion.
