Sporting San-José beat Inter San-Carlos 2:0 in the Apertura, round six of the Primera División on Friday evening. The result puts the hosts three points clear of their visitors in the standings, and they have not won since a 2-0 victory over Escorpionés Belén earlier this month — though this one felt different from the start.

G. Leiva opened the scoring in the fifth minute, and that was enough to settle things early. Inter took more possession by then, but they did not create much of anything until the second half. W. Gonzalez picked up a yellow in the twenty-ninth minute, and by half-time there were five bookings between the two sides.

The second half brought a red card for W. Gonzalez in the eightieth minute, and that changed the shape of things. Inter had been pressing forward, but with ten men they could not find an equaliser. Sporting saw the game out, and J. Navarro added a second goal in the eighty-eighth minute to close the account.

The win moves Sporting San-José to three points clear of Inter San-Carlos, who remain fifth on ten points. Both sides have played six games, but the gap is now meaningful. It was not a spectacular match, but Sporting kept their side in it and took the points where it mattered.
