Emmitt Smith: Derrick Henry Can Break My Rushing Record
The Hall of Famer says Ravens star Derrick Henry, with 13,162 career rushing yards, has the size and conditioning to chase down his all-time mark of 18,355.
Emmitt Smith says he thinks Derrick Henry can break his NFL career rushing record. The Hall of Fame running back made the comment to ESPN.
"Yes, I think that's possible. Derrick Henry is a bigger running back. He takes great care of his body and is in tremendous shape," Smith said.
Henry, 32, has rushed for 3,516 yards and scored 32 touchdowns over his last two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. In Week 1 he carried 24 times for 144 yards and three touchdowns. His career total stands at 13,162 rushing yards, 5,193 short of Smith's record of 18,355.
Smith set that mark over 226 NFL games. Henry has played 154.
Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey, Henry's teammate, said age has yet to catch up with him. "As Derrick gets older, you start thinking, 'He can't keep doing this forever.' Then he pulls off something like that, and you think, 'Maybe he can,'" Humphrey said.
