Sean McVay Hopes Rams Never Return to Australia
After a 7:27 loss to the 49ers in the Rams' Australia debut, coach Sean McVay says quotes taken out of context, not the atmosphere, are why he'd skip a repeat trip.
Sean McVay does not want the Rams back in Australia. "It's almost like Men in Black, when you say, 'Hey, I don't remember what happened. That was a long time ago.' I hope we never play in Australia again. And not because the atmosphere was bad, but because my words are going to get taken out of context," McVay said.
The Rams played their debut game in the country a week ago and lost to the San Francisco 49ers 7:27. Los Angeles arrived in Australia only a day before kickoff, a plan that did not work out.
The 49ers came away from that game with a cost of their own. Tight end Jake Tonjes tore his MCL and is out for the season, leaving San Francisco with just Kittle and Farrell at the position.
Sixteen regular-season games remain for the Rams, starting Monday against the NY Giants at SoFi Stadium, the club's 70,240-seat home since 1936. "I like how our preparation is going. We're looking ahead and need to prepare properly, stay maximally focused and energised. We've got a hell of a good football team coming up. Based on how they looked in Week 1, this is going to be a serious test," McVay said.
