About the player
Vargas came through O'Higgins' youth system before breaking into the first team in 2012 under Eduardo Berizzo. Loan spells at Barnechea and Audax Italiano followed, but it was back at O'Higgins that he had his defining moment: on 10 December 2013 the club beat Universidad Católica 1-0 in the playoff final to win the Torneo Apertura, the first league title in O'Higgins' history, with Vargas part of the squad.
He left O'Higgins in 2017 for a brief spell at Coquimbo Unido, then settled into the longest stretch of his career at Ñublense, where he stayed for five seasons. That run brought a second title, the Primera B championship in 2020, which sent Ñublense back up into the top flight. After five years there, he moved on a free transfer to Deportes Copiapó in June 2023, staying until his release in October 2024.
Vargas signed for Huachipato as a free agent on 6 March 2025. He has never earned a senior cap for Chile, though he did represent the under-21 side at the 2014 Maurice Revello Tournament in France.
