About the player
Sari Kees made her breakthrough at OH Leuven, where she joined the academy at the age of ten and was already playing senior football by fifteen. A loan-style spell at KRC Genk Ladies followed to secure regular minutes, before she returned to OH Leuven in April 2020 and grew into the role of captain. Across her second stint at the club she made 89 league appearances and scored 11 goals, and OH Leuven finished as runners-up in the Belgian Women's Super League in three consecutive seasons under her.
She signed for Leicester City on a free transfer in July 2024. Two seasons in England followed before she left the club in July 2026, moving on a free transfer to Ajax Women on a contract running until June 2029.
Kees has become a fixture for Belgium's Red Flames. She made her senior international debut in February 2022 against Slovakia and has since built up more than 30 caps. She started both legs of the decisive play-off final against Ukraine that sent Belgium through to the 2023–24 UEFA Women's Nations League play-offs, and has appeared at two European Championships with the national team, at Euro 2022 — where Belgium reached the quarter-finals — and at Euro 2025. She also came through the Belgian youth ranks at U15, U16, U17 and U19 level, including the 2019 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship, and won the Pinatar Cup with Belgium in 2022.
