«Jets»
One Super Bowl sits in the New York Jets' record, and for more than fifty years the club has been trying, without success, to add a second beside it. That title arrived in 1969, in only the sixth season since the franchise had settled on the name it still carries; before then, going back to its founding in 1959, the team had spent four seasons on the field as the Titans of New York, a name it dropped for Jets in 1963. It was under that second identity, and not the first, that the club reached the top of the league, and it is the identity that has stayed with every roster since, win or lose.
The green and white on the shirt trace back to that same 1963 change. Neither colour has been swapped out in the decades since — not through the 1969 champions, nor through any Jets team that has come after them and fallen short of what they managed that year.
The New York Jets' most recent run of games has taken them up against the Detroit Lions, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chicago Bears — the kind of stretch that fills MetLife Stadium's 82,500 seats.
