«Blue Hose»
Presbyterian's football programme sits in the Pioneer Football League now, and Bailey Memorial Stadium in Clinton holds 6,500 for it.
The nickname predates most of what came after it: players wore blue stockings in the early 1900s, and "Blue Stockings" got clipped to "Blue Hose" in 1954, a name that stuck through every league change since. Walter A. Johnson coached from 1915 to 1940, and Lonnie McMillian followed him through 1953. Frank Jones took the team to the 1959 Tangerine Bowl.
The 1930 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association title came early, and conference championships followed in stretches: four South Carolina Little Three titles across 1958 to 1962, four Carolinas Conference titles between 1966 and 1972, and back-to-back South Atlantic Conference titles in 1978 and 1979. Tommy Spangler, across two separate spells on the sideline, added the last of those league crowns in 2005.
Since the move to the Pioneer League, a conference title has not followed.
