The 2025 accounts left Budućnost close to shutting down altogether.
The club's ceiling came in 1999/00. Second place in the top flight of Bosnia and Herzegovina carried Budućnost into the UEFA Cup, and the first qualifying round paired them with Drnovice of the Czech Republic. They lost 0:1, then 0:3.
The 1997/98 title in the northern section of the First League of the Federation put a club into the Premier League for the first time. Two more First League titles followed, in 2003/04 and 2009/10.
The last stretch of that pattern ran through the Second League of the Federation, north group, which Budućnost won twice between 2017 and 2019 to climb back into the First Division. A cup run in 2022/23 reached the last 16, where Željezničar ended it.
The shirts are dark green and black; the supporters are known as the Ljumani.
